    Default SKS

As ashamed as I am to admit it, I have. The only reason I have one is because I dont have a M1 Garand! If I had a M1 Garand I would use the SKS for a target.
The SkS IMO is a wanna be M1.
Im going to go shoot the ugly thing tomorrow, but I was wonderig what that thing on the front of it was.
Up by the front sight it has a flip up sight thingy on it.
What is that for? Its about 3" tall when fliped up.

Kinda what I thought. Guess I need some Grenades!
I went and shot the thing this morning. To be honest, I was impressed. I was shooting 123 grain Remington in it. I set up 6" circle targets at 25, 50, and 100 yards. Shooting open sights I put 11 rounds in each target with the sight layed all the way down. After the first 33 rounds I went to go look see.
The first 25 yard target had 11 holes grouped pretty good around the center circle. The 50 yard looked about the same.
I got impressed when I saw the 100 yard target, all 11 rounds were on the 6" circle target!
I think that pretty good! I continued to play and shot about 80 rounds throught the SKS.
My conclusion is, I think the SKS would make a good varmit or home defence gun. As far a SHTF , it dont hold enough ammo and it takes too long to fill the magazine up. If it had a link clip like the M1 garand, I think it would be better. Loading the gun one shell at a time takes too long.
I loaded the SKS up and put it in easy reach, I plan to use it as a midnight " Zombies are in my yard" gun.

The SKS is a good gun. It sounds like you have a Yugo which in my opinion is one of the better available. I have a Yugo and a Russian. I had a couple Chinese but considered them junk and sold them for what I had into them. Regret it now because I don't think I had more than 75 bucks into them. Some people slick up an SKS with all kinds of bolt ons, but I like them best in the original furniture.

It is a Yugo. Im happy with it, except the part about I wish I had a M1 Garand. My uncle has one. Uncle sam gave it to him so he can shoot at the japs. with it!

Try this auction. Best time in the world to buy. I bought a Century reman M1 with a new receiver and I planted it into a Boyd walnut stock. Very pretty shooter with no collecters value to ruin.

I had a Chinese SKS for years, it was tough and a real shooter. There is no doubt that the receiver is much stronger than the stamped AK receivers and the barrel a tad longer. But...That doozie of a ten round magazine leaves something to be desired as well as the aftermarket hi capacity mags with the "snout" out front, many of which are just a POS..

There are SKS models, factory made that accept AK high capacity magazines but they are few and far between and cost a lot more bucks than a plain vanilla SKS....

I think I have about 700 into my M1. The stock is a work of art
