Ok, I have an opinion. I have a God-given right to protect myself, reinforced in terms of firearms by the second amendment. I feel instruction should be mandatory with concealed carry and the license is proof, just as a driver's license is a minor qualification for sharing the road. The pricing of the CHL license is not in line with the service costs by the state to issue, they are doing it and making a profit for their required service to me. Open carry is and should be a right without question (short guns exactly like long guns) or interpretation by bureaucrats for a citizen over 21 and non-violent, non-lawbreaker.
My opinion and a nickel are worth about two cents in the current environment. Vote in November.

Couple of things in the last few posts.
The DPS Beauroctratic (sp) red tape is a real pain. That is the reason I did not become an instructor long ago. They have really simplified it from what it was. It is still WAY to big a pain. The DPS does not get the fees for CHL any more. They used to. Now it goes in the General fund & they get their annual budget $$$s like all the rest of the state agencies. State is using CHL to cover a lot of short fall from waste in other areas. (my oppinion YMMV)
Like any other "TAX" this one is too high also for the work done.
When open carry is finally the law of the land I will be out of a job. That is what should be.
After OC is the law of the land as it should be (if I live long enough to see it) I will return to only training folks who want training to carry for PD.
I will never lobby to keep myself this job.
Thanks Dcav for the recomendation & I am working on another one.

As long as people want to defend themself's, firearms, and martial arts trainers will still have a job.
I hope you see Texas going open carry soon, like in the next year! If that happens I bet you will have a slew of people wanting training. Practice up on the gun slinging LT, people are going to need instructions.![]()
The part that is missing nowdays with the training was when we were young, military service and firearms training was mandatory for all men in US, as military service was, until the lottery in the early 1970's with the end of the mandatory draft into the military of 18 year olds. We are now two generations away from the time that every man in the US had training.
LT, there will always be a need for advanced training.

I must say though, training is necessary but it should not be required by law in order to carry.
I must say, that this would be one law I'd support 100%! It aint like all the other sorry laws we have. If we started this "say a 6 month military training" requirement , I'd be on my way today. That is if they dont think im too old or something.
Im not talkin about the CHL here. Im talkin about riverrats post.
